Wireless in Allentown?

NPR's On the Media has an excellent segment on municipal wireless--with a measured (but inconclusive) compare-and-contrast of Philly's private, St. Cloud's public, and Boston's hybrid systems.

Community wifi was one of the original reasons we formed Media Action of the Lehigh Valley. As we move into 2007, let's pressure city officials--including Allentown's Ed Pawlowski--to name a task force to start exploring options.

Jeff - good post. While we don't have a specific wireless plan (yet) for Allentown, there's activity going on in the background to pave the way. I believe the Administration is positivly inclined - as with everything, the issue is priorities and money. One of the reasons I've not been more agressive on this front has been the City really doesn't have any value-added applications for our citizens to access once on the "free" WiFi. I and others are working on that as we speak. In addition (and I need to be vague here due to contract negotiations underway) you'll be soon seeing some progress on this front as we start moving our City's Surveillance Camera installation forward. We're taking this one step at a time.
